Don’t let Covid get you down. The future is still mind-blowing.
What is 2022 going to bring?
I can’t tell you that, but I can tell you what the future is going to bring:
Awesomeness.
I know things are gnarly right now. I know it feels like we’re going to keep getting slammed by waves of Covid forever and forever.
But it’s not true. It might take a little while yet. I might even take another year or two. But we’ll get on top of it eventually.
In the meantime, the future is still coming. We’re still making progress. We’re still building amazing things. We’re still achieving magical achievements.
Like what?
How about like enabling a paralysed man to write using nothing but a computer chip inside his head?
Paralysed Man Posts World’s First ‘Direct-Thought’ Tweet Using Brain Chip
Philip O’Keefe has made the first ‘direct-thought’ tweet, after having a computer chip implanted into his brain.
O’Keefe, a 62-year-old from Australia, has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He made the tweet using just his thoughts and a brain computer interface created by neurotech startup Synchron.
The tweet was posted to Synchron CEO Thomas Oxley’s Twitter. After sharing the tweet, O’Keefe proceeded to talk about the ‘astonishing’ technology.
Of course he did. The first thing he did was bomb twitter. (The second thing he did was search for porn.)
But think about that for that. We now have a direct interface into the brain.
That’s a revolution for a man like Philip, but it’s the beginning on a whole new chapter in technology.
It’s wild.
We are going to be witness to some mind-blowing technological changes in our lifetime.
Despite Delta, despite Omicron, this is still an incredible time to be alive.
And what about for property?
Well, how about a company inking a deal with car parks for places to land their personal helicopter taxis:
The flat rooftops of inner-city and CBD car parks could become take-off and landing sites for hundreds of daily “air taxi” and commercial drone flights when they are approved in as little as three years’ time, under a plan unveiled by former Victorian state politician Clem Newton-Brown.
… An air taxi – or electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft – is designed to speedily commute passengers around big metropolitan areas, avoiding traffic congestion below.
They are quieter, lighter and greener than helicopters. They are also expected to be cheaper to operate because of lower maintenance costs and through the use of ride-sharing.
Yep, personal air-taxis are coming – probably in the next three to five years. Seriously.
That totally changes the game.
So look, as the year opens, and as we ride the wave of Omicron, I just wanted to shine a light on this.
The future is still coming.
And it still looks amazing.

Crowds of air-taxis and drones flying over your head in CBD? Another reason, apart from COVID, not to get out to the street.
