No B.S Friday: Money isn’t for bling, it’s for knee pain.
I caught up with a friend of mine the other day. He was recovering from a shoulder injury, but thankfully it wasn't his drinking arm.
I asked him how it was going. The first thing he reflected to me was just how different the experience of being injured was when you had money.
He's always done okay. But in the past few years he taken that next step up to that lovely little platform in the sky where you don't really have to worry about money anymore.
(I sincerely believe that you will get there too one day. That's why you're reading these blogs, right?)
He was in a position now where it felt like he could throw almost unlimited resources at the problem.
Should I get an ultrasound? Of course why not. Should I get acupuncture? We can give it a go. It can't hurt. What about a recovery plan with an osteopath? Let’s give it a crack.
What about a chakra realignment with a Reiki practitioner? Sure, and throw in a Goddess Oracle reading while you’re at it.
It was the first time he didn't feel like he had to shortchange himself – that there were limits on how much he would spend on his own health and well-being.
And that felt wonderful. He felt his nervous system drop. He reached a new level of relaxation.
And I think this is where the value of money really shows itself.
I mean, I hear people say things like, I don't really need that much money to be happy. I don't need fancy cars. I don't need to eat it fancy restaurants. I don't need designer shoes.
But it's not just what money can buy you, it's what money can protect you from.
People who say no to the fancy shoes lifestyle, aren't just saying no to having nice things. They're putting themselves at the mercy of life's ailments.
It's not just about having nice shoes. It means that when you get a niggle in your knee, you don't blink twice at dropping 10 grand on making sure that that niggle doesn't escalate into suffering and disability.
It's about having the resources to defend yourself from the things that would impinge on your lifestyle.
When you don't have money, and you get some blowout in your health, unless you know a Reiki practitioner who is willing to offer you mates rates, then you're just stuck with it. You just have to deal with it.
You have to get on with your life with an injury, and with an injury you know you could fix if you just had more money.
That sucks.
So this is what I wanted to point out. When people think about “rich”, they think about luxury cars and watches and yachts in the Mediterranean.
But what you should really think about, is walking without pain, eating a diet perfectly suited to your physical needs, and feeling relaxed and vital.
This is what it's about.
This is why we invest in our financial future.
