No B.S Friday: Just because somethings fun, doesn’t mean it should be a gig.
Don’t take your fun to the market.
There’s a better way to do things.
This is something that I see a lot. People want to live with passion. They want to do things that they enjoy. And so they look for a way to turn their hobbies into paying gigs.
Like, you love hang-gliding so your try to set yourself up as a fulltime hang-gliding instructor.
Or you love gardening, so you open up a commercial nursery.
Or you love fitness and pumping iron, so you open up a gym.
You take your fun, and then you try to take it to the market and sell it.
The end result, most times, is that you spoil your fun and you don’t make much money.
Not that there’s anything wrong with being a hang-gliding instructor or anything like that.
But be clear about what your passions are.
Be a hang-gliding instructor because you love coaching people into challenging experiences.
Run a commercial nursery because you enjoy working with the business systems that manage the production of marketable plants, from seedling to sapling.
Or open up a gym because you’re passionate about laundering money for bikies.
But be clear about it. Make sure that the essence of what you end up doing is actually what you want to be doing.
And I get what we do it.
There just isn’t enough time in the day. Our weeks are crammed to over-flowing. We’re just so busy.
And the two big demands on our life are making money and having fun.
So of course we want to smoosh those two things together. It’s just efficient. It’s just good time management.
But don’t take your fun to the market. Don’t spoil it.
Keep those two questions separate. They don’t have to have the same answer.
And then add in a third question: how do I make money in a way that gives me enough time to really enjoy my life?
This is the question that everyone should be asking. This question will make or break your life.
And it’s why I think people just don’t give property investing enough consideration.
I genuinely don’t know a more time-efficient way to create wealth and build a money-making system – a system that keeps ticking away whether you’re working or hang-gliding or wiping bikie sweat of the rowing machine.
This is the essence of Rich Dad, Poor Dad right?
Real freedom doesn’t come with a high-paying job. Real freedom comes with having a money-making system, whether that’s a business or whether it comes from investing.
But it’s the system that sets you free.
So don’t take your fun to the market.
Let your fun be fun.
There are better ways to make money.
