Welcome to power week month.
Starting on the second Tuesday of the year, this is what I call “power month.”
A lot of people have big intentions for the first week of the year, but let’s be honest, most of us are still drunk, or still on the beach, or both.
So no point throwing a lot of energy at that week.
Same deal for the first Monday back. We’re still getting familiar with our tools again, clearing out our inbox, and catching up on co-worker gossip.
But by Tuesday, you’ve got no excuse. And you are now into the week that will become a foundation for the rest of the year.
So let’s do something with it. I’m setting a seven-day one month challenge. Each week I’ll send you two quick 5-minute exercise that will sharpen your focus, resolve your will, and fill your sails for the year ahead.
All you’ve got to do is post your responses in the comment section below to go into the chance to win an I-pad. I’m not going to be a nazi about it, I’m not going to be watching time-stamps or anything like that. But to win, I do want to see you’ve had a crack at all seven challenges. (I’ll also hold off on counting til the end of next week, so if you miss a day you’ll have a chance to catch it up.)
And that’s it. It’s win-win. You get to sharpen your resolve and make a strong start to the year. AND you might win an ipad! (Interesting question: how many people on my list have the commitment for all seven challenges? Maybe your odds of winning are high?)
Anyway, let’s jump into it.
Challenge One: Energy
As some hippy dude in Byron Bay told me back in the 80s, “It’s all just energy, man.”
And to an extent he’s right. If we want to achieve anything, we need drive. That’s obvious.
However our energy levels have a massive impact on how we feel, our outlook on life, and even the kinds of opportunities we call down.
To a large extent, in my mind, the words “energy” and “mood” are interchangeable. “I’m in a good mood” is really just another way of saying “my energy is up.”
So for those of us on a productive path – for those of us looking to bust up the boring and the ordinary – we need to cultivate, spend, and protect our energies carefully.
So your challenge for day one is simple. Write down one thing that lifts your energy.
Now I want you to pause a moment here. Most people will write “exercise” by reflex. But that’s not the only source of energy, and for some people it isn’t at all.
And what I want you to look for is something that fills your cup across the spectrum.
So for me, running k’s on a treadmill is batsh#t boring. But banging out the same miles on a soccer field – that really fills my cup.
And ofcourse I’m not talking temporary highs like coffee or drugs or anything like that. You know the kind of energy your body is deeply craving.
So I want you to do an inventory of your life. What nourishes you and fills your energetic cup?
And then ask yourself one question: Am I doing it enough?
That’s it. That’s your challenge. Nice and easy to start.
Post your answers in the comment section, and tomorrow on Friday.
Full power ahead.

Ps – know anyone who could use a push or might like an easy way to win an ipda? Forward this on. It’s open to everyone.
