Health, like happiness, is an inside job.
Ok, we owe it to our community to look after ourselves right now.
It seems that the coronavirus is like any other virus – it can only take root in the organism when the organism’s immunity isn’t up to scratch.
If you can keep yourself fit and healthy, then you’ll be doing your bit to slow the spread of the virus through the community, and help flatten the curve.
And I get that it’s tough right now. These are stressful times. I found myself out and about the other day and it’s eerie. A city of 3 million people, all in hiding.
It’s kinda post-apocalyptic. And it’s not clear where we’re heading with all this. Is a financial collapse coming? Is the economy going to weather the storm? What about your super?
So look, I’m not here to tell you to take it easy.
But I do feel like I want to share a simple hack for boosting your immunity. I feel like that could be valuable offering to the whole story right now.
And look, when you read about ‘immunity hacks’, most people imagine I’m talking about sea-weed smoothies, or magnesium infusions, or rubbing turmeric into your eyeballs or whatever.
We’ve been conditioned to think of health as an outside-in kinda thing. If you want to be well on the inside, you need to consume something from the outside.
This is a dangerous idea. Yes, nutrition is totally important, but health, like happiness is an inside job.
And that’s why I’m a fan of the Wim Hoff Method.
Wim’s becoming a household name these days, and deservedly so. What’s he’s sharing with the world is awesome.
Effectively, at its heart, it’s a very simple breathing exercise. You take 30 or so deep breaths, then breathe out and hold it as long as you can.
And that’s it. Repeat 3 times.
And it’s incredibly powerful. It has a range of benefits, and it’s particularly useful in boosting immunity.
The simplicity of what he’s discovered is actually challenge for Wim. (I keep thinking, how do you monetise this thing? It’s so simple. There’s no way to protect that IP.)
But that’s a blessing for us. If you download his app (it’s free!), he guides you through the exercise, and it only takes 15 minutes a day.
But what I love about it is that it’s starting from the inside out.
The idea is that our survival systems – immunity, hormones, circulation, all that – they’re like muscles. If you don’t use them, they get ‘soft’.
And modern life is incredibly cushy. We can spend our whole lives these days without a ever experiencing a direct threat to our organism.
That’s unusual. It’s its not we were built for.
But, you can kick-start your survival systems. Give them a jolt.
How?
Hold your breath.
After a point, your organism starts to wake up. “Hey, what happened to the oxygen? I was using that!”
With the survival of the organism directly under threat, all the survival systems kick into gear. It gives the survival engine a rev.
And as a result, you become more robust, and ‘survival ready’.
I’m simplifying and paraphrasing a lot. But you get the idea. Immunity isn’t about what you consume, it’s about how toned and fit your inner immunity-system is.
So if this is sparking some interest, definitely check out Wim and his story, and download the app and get into it.
It’s free, and I really feel like I’ve seen it help with my own immunity.
And we all need to be doing what we can right now.
JG.
